The EPPDyL is at the forefront of electric propulsion. Three projects are currently active:
- Lorentz Force Accelerators (LFA) - applied-field magnetoplasmadynamics (MPD) thrusters using lithium or argon as propellant.
- Radio-Frequency Controlled Hollow Cathode (RF-CHC) - exploration of novel concepts for next-generation hollow cathodes.
- Direct Wave Drive Thruster (DWDT) - an innovative concept for electrodeless plasma acceleration.
- Characterization of Dispersion Relations - studies of plasma waves and instabilities.
